Sterling YAHOO 3.2

The Town of Sterling Recreation Department's Y.A.H.O.O. program serves as a commendable bridge between the youth and senior members of our community, fostering connections through service and enjoyable activities.

Taking place over five Saturdays in both the Spring and Fall, the program encourages Sterling youth to engage in light yard clean-up tasks, providing valuable assistance to seniors. Notably, Y.A.H.O.O. is entirely volunteer-run and sustains itself through community donations.

Participants gather at Town Hall at 8:45 AM, where they have the opportunity to select their assignments before being shuttled to various work sites by adult volunteers, referred to as “Drivervisors.” This term refers to adults who assist by providing transportation and guidance to the youth volunteers.

The overall management of Y.A.H.O.O. is entrusted to a dedicated “Youth Board,” comprising ten youth leaders, who, along with adult board members, play crucial roles in coordinating, organizing, and administering the program’s activities.

Young adults from grades 7 through 12 are encouraged to participate in Y.A.H.O.O. Those interested in volunteering can do so by either completing and mailing a volunteer form or by submitting an electronic version available on the program's website.
